Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of contingent fit on organizational performance (person-centered care) among nursing homes focusing on market environment turbulence, organizational structure and top management risk coping strategy in COVID-19.
For this study, data from ¡¸2020 National Survey on Care Culture (Person-centered Care) among Nursing Homes¡¹ of the Center for Social Welfare Research, Yonsei University were used. Finally, 326 cases were analyzed. For the analysis, a summary measure of fit by Miller(1992) was utilized for contingent fit. One of findings is that environment turbulence as well as strategic market orientation appeared to be significant variables to organizational performance, measured with person-centered care. Firstly, environmental turbulence and market orientation appeared to be significant variables to organizational performance. Secondly, fit between market environment turbulence and centralization was a significantly negative influence on organizational performance. Thirdly, in relation to centralization, fit of top management market orientation appeared to be a significantly positive variable, while fit of top management risk taking having negative influence on organizational performance. After all, in consistence with previous studies, findings indicate that under unstable environment, centralized organizational structure may be not effective to organizational performance. In unusual environment such as COVID-19, top management market orientation as well as decentralized or flexible management may be more required, rather than centralized or formalized.
